杯子的道理 杯子里先放了一块体积和它差不多大小的石头，石头与杯子的缝隙可以容纳沙子，当石头、沙子装满杯子，男孩根据沙子吸水、水能渗透沙子的科学规律，又在已经放满石头、沙子的杯中注入水。这样，从最初杯子空间被石头占据，进而被沙子、石头占据，最后被水、沙子、石头这几样“特性”鲜明的物质混合充满。 石头、沙子、水，这三种特征鲜明、特性互补的物体可以充满一个空杯子，但前提必须是先放石头，再放沙子，最后放水。故事中，当老师打破这个顺序和规律，先放沙子、水，并考问学生如果再想让石头也装进杯子里“该怎么放？”。结果，刚才那个充分发挥自己想象力的男孩，没有中老师的“套”。“男孩就把杯子里的沙子和水倒出来，先把石头放进去。” 男孩的举动，表面上看很简单。不就是重复第一次的做法步骤吗？为何刚才那个极具想象力极有创新意识的男孩，这回“走老路”，循规蹈矩了呢？这样的疑问正是故事想要给予读者的启示。套用一个流行述语，石头―沙子―水，最大限度的添满了杯子的空间。事实上，真正充满空杯子的是男孩的科学想象力，而男孩的科学想象力是建立在对物体特征充分把握、物质特性充分利用的基础上，建立在对科学占据空间的规律的基础上。这里的“科学占据空间”其实就是“全面、协调、可持续发展”的科学发展观在一次物理小实验的中的成功运用。 当老师先放石头时，第一次问学生满了吗，这个男孩说没满，还可以放沙子。假如第二个被补充到杯子里的不是沙子而是水，会怎样呢？可想而知，石头、水“充满”的杯子是无法再补充沙子的，已经“满了的”杯子因为补充的沙子会使得杯中的水溢出。 一个空杯子，当人们发挥主观能动性、发挥科学想象力，遵循“石头、沙子、水”的顺序，遵循物质特性派生的科学规律，我们就能够让杯子的空间得到最丰富的充满。反之，如果不顾事物与事物之间产生影响关联所固有的规律，只一味地想当然的“添满”，不仅达不到预想目的，而且会适得其反。 小小杯中折射的“科学发展观”，不也值得人类在工农业发展、环境保护、城市扩张的大课题上反思吗？为什么马路越修越宽而交通却越来越堵塞？为什么高层小区越建越密而人们的精神家园却越来越空虚？为什么太湖巢湖水质在科技发达的今天污染越来越严重？事实证明，“发展”不能不顾生态平衡，遵循科学规律才能发挥物质特性的潜能，否则就会事倍功半，甚至遭到“文明的惩罚”。
开拓学生自主学习的新天地 ——北京大学附中小论文写作课实验报告李裕德 内容提要： 在70年代末期开设、80年代发展、90年代开始科学化的小论文写作和答辩课，贯彻了以学生为主体的教育思想，充分调动了学生自主学习的积极性。这门课的效果是培养了学生的思维能力、提问能力、自学能力和收集科技情报以及其他各种资料的能力，培养了学生学习的浓厚兴趣，提高了学生的高考成绩，同时也锻炼了教师队伍。这项实验具有科学性、创新性、应用性。现在这门课已经有了初步的社会影响，扩展到了一些兄弟学校。 关键词：自主性 思维能力 从1979年起，北京大学附中开始进行小论文写作和答辩的教学，逐步形成了小论文写作课。这门课程的开设，是在党的改革开放政策的指导下，为教学改革进行的教学科学研究的一个组成部分，纳入了我校的教学计划当中，成为全体高中教师的必教课和学生的必修课，学生的小论文成绩记入了学生的成绩册。后来这个实验纳入了海淀区“八五”教学科学研究的课题，成为海淀区教科研的重点项目。现在，这项实验工作取得了初步的成效。一、问题的提出 70年代末期，正是我国进行拨乱反正的时期。当时语文教学存在的弊病是：第一，把语文课讲成政治课，忽视了语文知识的学习和语文能力的训练，结果学生的语文水平下降，严重影响了其他课程的学习，严重影响了学生的成长。第二，还存在着只重视读写而忽视听说能力的倾向，学生不拿讲稿就说不了几句话，适应新时代社会生活的能力就非常差。第三，在作文教学当中，老是采取一个模式进行教学，教师平均使用力量，就是每学期布置学生写若干篇作文，批改后进行讲评，文章也千篇一律，千人一面，不利于学生个性的发展。第四，中学教育和高等教育严重脱节，中学教育不为学生将来写论文做准备，学生进入了高等学校还不会写论文。为了纠正这些偏向，我校当时的语文教研组组长章熊老师主张进行小论文的写作和答辩的教学，通过这项活动，恢复语文课的工具性，提高学生正确使用祖国语言文字的能力，特别是听和说的能力；通过这项活动，改变作文教学平均使用力量的状况，在作文教学当中形成一次高潮，让学生反复写作，反复修改，从中体会到作文的艰辛和乐趣，也改变那种作文缺乏个性的状况；通过这项活动，探索中学教育和高等教育的衔接问题，摸索一些衔接的经验。而要做到这一切，就必须充分发挥学生的自主性、活动性、创造性，这对人才的培养是十分重要的。章熊老师的这个建议，得到了学生的热烈响应。从1979年开始，小论文的写作和答辩教学工作便拉开了序幕。二、基础 进行这项活动，我们具备理论的基础、教师的基础和学生的基础。（一）理论的基础1、以学生为主体的教育思想是我们的理论基础 新中国成立以来，我国的教育工作取得了举世瞩目的巨大的成就，不仅用世界上几乎是最少的教育经费培养了世界上最多的人才，而且教育质量有了提高，我国中等学校的教育质量走在世界的前列。但是在我们应该如何办教育的问题上，例如在究竟以谁为中心或主体的问题上，也存在着严重的分歧。一种认识是，应该以教师为中心，由教师向学生的头脑里注入知识，学生处于被动接受知识的地位，于是教师便在课堂上“满堂灌”；一种认识是，应该以学生为主体，教师应该调动学生的积极性，引导学生主动地去接受知识。我们赞成以教师为主导、以学生为主体的教育思想。只有以学生为主体，教师发挥主导作用，才能充分调动学生学习的主动性，学生的学习才能具有活动性，才能培养学生的创造性。而以教师为中心，进行填鸭式的教学，只会束缚学生的头脑，使学生失去了学习的兴趣，把学习当成一种无法摆脱的痛苦负担。我们国家没有培养出更高质量人才，更是没有培养出一个诺贝尔奖金获得者，一个重要的原因便是教师中心论在作怪。我们认为，小论文的写作和答辩，可以极大地调动学生学习的积极性，充分发挥了学生的主动性和创造性，正是贯彻以学生为主体教育思想的良好手段。2、能力比知识更加重要，是我们的又一个理论根据 我们认为，知识是能力的基础。有了一定数量的知识，概括、归纳、分类、归类、联想、求异、分析、综合、演绎、迁移等思维能力和其他处理各种事情的能力才能发展起来。知道的东西越多，头脑里的思考活动就会越剧烈；思考越多，就越会概括、分析、归纳、演绎、迁移。能力的中心是思维能力；思维能力越强，其他能力便可能获得很好的发展。而没有适当广博的知识，形成能力就很困难，例如知识面太窄，概括就会不正确，演绎就会出错误，分类就会不合理，迁移就会有困难，所以知识是重要的。但是能力比知识更加重要。因为知识可以随时获得，而培养能力则需要花费旷日持久的努力；有了自主学习的能力，则可以获得更多的知识。一个工作人员在解决实际问题的过程中，他的知识可以为解决实际问题提供指导和参考，能力则关系到他是否能够运用他所学到的知识去解决问题，关系到问题是否解决得好，工作质量是否高。而小论文的写作和答辩，则是把知识转化为能力的催化剂，通过这项活动，可以培养学生收集科技情报和其他各种资料的能力，可以培养他们的思维能力、听说读写的能力和其他各种各样的能力。3、教学相长，也是我们的理论根据 教师处在主导的地位，负有教育学生的重大责任。“教育的关键在教师”，说得更准确一点，教育的关键在教师的水平。中国古人就知道“经师易求，人师难得。”（《北周书·卢诞传》）光会教书的教师有的是，而作为培养人才的教师就十分难得了。我们的教师应当能够培养全面发展的人才，应当是“人师”。德国教育家第斯多惠（1790年～1866年）说过：“一个次的教师奉送真理，一个好的教师教人发现真理。”善导的教师要把学生当作主体，教导学生自己去理解，去钻研，去发现。教师应当是学生的榜样，是热爱知识、热爱学习、热爱本职工作的榜样。用以身作则的行动去教育、感染学生，是最重要的教，比口头的说教更加有力。 但是，“教育者必须先受教育”。教师必须善于向学生学习。学生在小论文写作和答辩当中表现出来的热情和积极性，也深深地教育了教师。为了指导学生选题，为了批改小论文，为了指导答辩活动，他们都需要向学生学习，做到“教学相长”。只要阅读那些内容极为丰富的科技论文，教师的收获就不小。许多新知识、新概念，我们是向学生学来的。（二）教师的基础 我们学校的教师有没有可能指导小论文的写作和答辩？他们有没有这方面的基础呢？ 我们学校的教师，热爱教育事业，热爱学生，有很强的敬业精神，能够全面贯彻党的教育方针，能够贯彻“打好基础，培养能力，发展个性，提高素质”的原则。因此，只要进行动员，他们一定会投入这项劳动量相当大的活动中来。我们学校的教师，学历层次高，知识面比较广，能够发扬北京大学“勤奋、严谨、求实、创新”的学风，在治学的基础上进行教学。他们在教学中善于质疑问难，求真务实，形成了百花齐放、百家争鸣的学术氛围，创造了不拘一格的教学方法。 其中有不少人是在海淀区、北京市乃至在全国都有影响的名师。我校的初中教师，工作兢兢业业，踏踏实实，特别重视基础知识的教学，为学生打下了良好的基础，而高中教师则肯于钻研，乐于探讨。这样的教师，完全具备指导学生进行小论文写作和答辩的可能性。（三）学生的基础 我们的学生是不是具备进行小论文写作和答辩的基础呢？我们认为是具备的。第一，他们生活在改革开放的年代，国家建设蒸蒸日上，经济飞速发展，社会在向他们提出日新月异的要求，要求他们具有收集和整理科技情报的能力，要求他们具备新的知识和适应现代化社会生活的本领，因此他们具备进行小论文写作和答辩的社会大环境。第二，我们学校具备一种努力学习，积极向上的风气，具备一种发挥自主性、活动性、创造性的风气，具备一批水平比较高的教师，也具备一批水平很高的家长，为学生进行小论文写作和答辩创造了良好的小环境。第三，我们学校的学生，素质比较好，知识面比较大，肯于钻研，喜欢辩论、讨论，遇事有自己的看法，不喜欢只是死记硬背，不喜欢不通过思考就随便接受别人的观点。因此，我们认为学生的条件是好的，完全具备进行小论文写作和答辩的条件。 有了这样的认识，有了这样的教师和学生，我们就有了进行小论文写作和答辩的基础，可以开辟发挥学生自主性的新天地了。三、过程（一）小论文写作课的发展过程 自从章熊老师提出开展小论文写作和答辩活动的建议之后，我们开始进行了这样的活动。 但是 不久以后，这项活动受到了一部分家长的反对，认为这种做法会影响高考的成绩，我们被迫不得不暂时中断了一次。进入80年代，我们看到学生受到考试的压力非常大，学生的自主活动性受到了抑制。让学生死记死背地去准备高考、中考，会妨碍学生学到真正有用的知识，会降低学生的思考能力，口头表达能力的培养更是受限制。学生按照一个模式写文章，作文千篇一律、千人一面的局面也始终无法改变，同高等教育脱节的状态也依然如故。我们从初次的小论文写作和答辩当中体会到，这项活动可以发挥学生的自主性、活动性和创造性，确实是开辟了学生自主学习的新天地，所以我们坚持进行了这项工作，即使是1989年的5月，也没有间断。章熊老师调走以后，语文组的高中教师总是加班加点地从事这项活动，吴祖兴老师对这项工作尽了很大的力量，不仅尽心尽力地指导学生的写作和答辩，而且编辑、出版了两本《北大附中小论文选》。他还开始组织更大规模的写作和答辩活动，到兄弟学校介绍情况，使这项活动开始走向社会。 在90年代，为了适应21世纪培养优秀人才的需要，我们探讨了未来所需要的人才的特点。未来的社会是信息社会，那个时候需要的人才，尤其是科技工作者，必须善于收集科技情报，整理科技情报，其中包括快速写出科技论文和其他各种论文的能力；需要良好的口才，以便使用现代化的通讯设备。为此我们坚持进行小论文的写作和答辩工作，总结了一些经验，把这种活动作为一门课程固定下来。从1993年开始，学生论文的成绩也记入了学生的成绩册。沈琨老师还把这项工作推向科学化的轨道，开始进行详细的调查统计工作，对学生阅读了多少书籍报刊，花了多少时间进行写作，每个人的写作字数等都进行了详细的统计。我们还把这项活动推向全校，请各科教师都指导学生的小论文写作。不久以后，高中各科教师，如物理、化学、政治、历史、地理、生物、外语、体育等课程的教师都把小论文的写作当作自己那门课程的一项内容。我们还把这项活动推向社会，一方面请一些学生家长指导学生进行小论文的写作，另一方面向社会作宣传，如邀请海淀区领导和兄弟学校的师生来我校指导、观摩小论文的答辩活动，也到兄弟学校，如人民大学附中、延庆中学去进行答辩，同时也写了一些文章向社会上进行宣传。（二）具体指导小论文写作和答辩的过程 我们不赞成教师中心论，主张学生主体论，但是，这不等于我们不重视发挥教师的主导作用。在整个小论文写作和答辩的过程中，教师始终处于主导的地位，成为小论文写作和答辩的教导者、指挥者、组织者。 小论文的写作和答辩分七个阶段进行。1、引导阶段 高中生刚刚入学，我们就先打招呼，让他们有进行写作和答辩的初步思想准备。高中一年级结束之前，就进行具体的布置，讲明开展这项活动的意义，要求他们利用暑假的时间开始收集资料，教他们如何写卡片，做剪报，写笔记。尤其是讲明议论文和说明文的区别，让他们学会确立论点，寻找论据。2、收集阶段 学生利用暑假和二年级开学以后的时间大量阅读书籍报刊，广泛收集信息和资料。据1996届不完全的统计，每个教学班的学生，阅读字数达1000万以上，平均每个学生阅读大约22万字的书籍报刊，每个学生做卡片平均20张。1994届的学生，有的班级每人做剪报300张。3、训练阶段 有了材料，还要对学生进行训练，抽出2～4课时教学生如何分类、概括、归纳、演绎等等。例如有的教师将两个十分相似的材料放在一起，训练学生找共同点；有的教师将两个风马牛不相及的材料放在一起，训练学生的联想能力。经过了短时间的训练，学生进一步掌握了从具体的材料当中概括出论点的方法。然后，再抽2课时训练学生掌握议论文的写作方法，要求他们一定做到论点、论据配合得当，要有论证。有的教师找来范文，用范文来引路。4、选题阶段 训练阶段结束时，便布置学生选题，交代选题的注意事项。学生选题以后，都将题目交给教师审阅。教师发现有的题目过大，如《中国家庭结构的发展》，有的题目过小，如《谈“魁父之丘”的“之”》，教师予以纠正。有的学生很认真，除了交来选题之外，还交来备选题。第二次交选题之后，便进入写作阶段。5、写作阶段 先让学生写出论文提纲，教师进行逐个的检查，纠正提纲的毛病（往往中心论点不明确，只是罗列事实）之后，学生便开始进行写作。第一次论文交来以后，教师仔细批改，采取全班讲评和个别谈话的方式，指出论文的不足之处，主要是中心论点不明确，或者论点、论据配合不当，缺乏论证等，发给学生进行修改。第二次交来之后，教师再一次进行批改，学生再一次进行修改。有的论文经过三、四次的修改，才通过了教师的“鉴定”。据我们统计，每个学生写作论文平均花了36小时，每篇论文的字数平均为4500字。6、答辩阶段 答辩在高二上学期（以前曾经在高二下学期，后来为避开会考而提前）利用4周左右的语文课时间，分三步进行。首先用2～4课时进行小组宣讲答辩，让学生每一个人都有宣讲答辩的机会。小组答辩以后，推选出2～3名同学参加全班的宣讲答辩。然后利用14课时左右的时间，开展全班的宣讲和答辩活动。这是答辩当中最热烈的时候，学生的参与意识十分强，纷纷争着发言，抢着辩论，有时候简直到了“争吵”的地步。每一次答辩，发言的学生总是占到全体学生总数的80％以上。班级答辩结束以后，最后用2～3小时召开全年级的宣讲答辩大会。有时候，全年级的宣讲答辩大会邀请全校愿意参加的同学参加，或者邀请家长等参加，形成了十分热烈的局面。7、延伸阶段 延伸阶段当中，让学生写参加答辩大会的侧记，之后又让学生写后记。让学生写全年级答辩大会侧记，学生必定十分注意答辩的情况，细心观察会场的动静，细心注意各种问题和回答问题的状况，注意自己提出问题和参加争论时的心情。学生在后记当中，畅谈了自己的体会，总结了自己的收获，巩固科技论文写作和答辩的成果。四、效果分析 开展这样的活动，对学生是一次成功的思想教育。学生在这样的活动中，认识到调查研究、查阅资料是搞好这项活动的基础，这本身就是一次生动的唯物主义教育。学生在研究问题的过程中，初步体验到了科学研究要付出艰辛的劳动，认识到将来建设祖国更要付出毕生的精力。他们在后记当中常常谈到这样的体会。上这样的课，对学生是一次极为生动活泼的思想教育，比单纯进行说教要有力得多。除了思想教育的效果之外，还取得了下面的一些效果。（一）培养了学生的能力 开展小论文写作和答辩活动，培养了学生多种能力，最重要的是以下一些能力。1、收集科技情报的能力和研究问题的能力学生要写作科技论文，要进行答辩，就得广泛收集科技情报和各种各样的资料。海湾战争刚刚结束，学生便从我国科研部门收集到了美国最新式战斗机的资料和图片，写成了论文拿来宣讲。为了研究彗星撞击木星的问题，学生广泛地收集了国内外的报道，写出了《彗木相撞的启示》。学生从收集科技情报的过程中体会到了收集科技情报的乐趣，学到了收集的方法，初步培养了收集科技情报的能力。 这项活动也初步培养了学生研究问题的能力。在各科教师的指导下，学生除了查阅资料外，还常常进行社会调查，了解第一手的材料。由于知识面得到了扩大，思维能力得到了发展，他们便能够进行归纳、概括、分析、综合，便能够仔细地研究问题。如政治课老师布置了写论文，安德玺同学便调查了海淀一带的报摊，对于居民们喜欢买什么样报刊的情况进行了分析研究，提出了自己的见解。我们并不指望中学生有什么创见，所以一直把学生的论文叫做“小论文”，但是也确实有一部分学生提出了前人没有发现的问题。例如《有关木星卫星分布规律的一些个人浅见》一文，提出了木星卫星的分布规律和太阳系大行星的分布规律有共同性的看法，94届的鄢翔同学研究错觉产生的原因而提出了“视觉场”的概念。就我们的目力所及，这些问题前人没有提出过。2、思维能力 学生收集了大量资料，便需要经过分析、归纳、分类、归类、概括、综合、演绎、比较、类比、求异、联想、迁移、筛选……才能形成自己的主题思想，才能选择恰当的论据。《试论中国现代诗何以没有传世之作》通过概括、比较，找出了社会不重视诗歌、诗人没有达到很高的艺术境界等原因；《我国古代铸币与通货膨胀》通过联想、概括，说明了铜钱的膨胀多发生在战争、灾荒、统治阶级挥霍浪费的时期这样一种规律。这些论文都证明了学生思维能力有了相当大的提高。3、提出问题的能力 中国古人特别提倡“问”。《论语·为政》上说：“多闻阙疑”（知道得多就会在心中产生问题并把问题储存在心中）。清代的刘开说：“君子之学必好问。问与学，相辅而行者也，非学无以致疑，非问无以广识。”（《孟涂文集》） 我们的祖先创造了“学问”一词，把“学”和“问”联系在一起，就因为“问”对于“学”有极大的作用。爱因斯坦也认为，提出问题等于解决了问题的一半。在答辩过程中，学生必须向论文的宣读者发问，一个学生的提问会激起一批学生的提问，“问焉以资切磋，所谓交相问难，审问而明辨之也。”（同上）提出问题激发了提问的兴趣，增强了提问的勇气，培养了学生提出问题的能力。4、自学的能力 我国现代著名教育家陶行知（1891年～1946年）说：“我以为好的先生不是教书，不是教学生，乃是教学生学。”（《陶行知文集》14页）因为一个人在一生当中，在学校学习的时间毕竟是很少的；要想对社会作出贡献，就得在毕业以后不断地自学。因此，培养学生的自学能力，实在是比单单教学生知识重要得多。开展小论文的写作和答辩，始终没有离开对学生自学能力的培养。他们自己去收集情报和资料，自己去分析归纳，自己去提问，一句话，发挥了他们的自主性，他们便得到了很大的收获，从中体会到了自学的好处和艰辛，也学会了不少自学的方法。5、全面的语文能力 语文教学大纲要求语文课培养学生听、说、读、写的能力，这个要求是全面的。现在的语文教学中，只重视读、写而忽视听、说的偏向十分严重。小论文的写作和答辩确实达到了全面培养学生语文能力的目的。学生的写作水平有了很大的提高。在80年代，海淀区每年出版《高考作文选》，北大附中参加高考学生的作文总是占四分之一到三分之一。1988年冬，北京市举行了一次语文竞赛，6所学校的学生在一起进行决赛，当场出题当场作文。其他学校的学生刚刚写了一个开头，北大附中的学生已经交了卷，并且流利地朗读了作文。其他学校学生的作文没有得分，北大附中学生的作文拿了双分。1994年，有30多篇论文在北京市海淀区获奖，其中4篇获北京市一等奖，一篇（《把对联纳入语文教学中来》）获全国一等奖，作者因此还获得了银帆奖。此外，在答辩的过程中，必须注意听别人的宣读和提问，必须参与讨论和争论，听、说能力都得到了锻炼。1990年3月，国家教委副主任柳斌同志带团前来北大附中调查教学情况，找学生座谈之后，几位领导同志都说：“这个学校的学生真能说，滔滔不绝！”一些学生可以不拿讲稿，不带资料，随口说上5分钟、10分钟乃至更长的时间，个别学生可以说一个小时以上。 我们调查了已经升入高等学校的二十多位我校毕业生，他们一致认为，在北大附中学习期间进行的小论文写作和答辩课，使他们初步具备了论文写作的能力，为在高等学校的论文写作打下了良好的基础。（二）极大地激发了学生学习的兴趣 小论文的写作和答辩，可以适当扩大学生的知识面。学生在写作和答辩的过程中，大量翻阅书籍报刊，获得了课堂以外的大量知识，从学生科技论文的题目当中可见一斑：《有关木星卫星分布规律的一些个人浅见》《我国古代铸币与通货膨胀》《雍容典雅的台阁词风——论晏殊词》《从中国古代的兵器发展看中国古代科技的进步》《月球是太阳系的第十大行星》……。每一届的学生写作小论文，完成率均是100％，高于平时的作文完成率。北京市十杰青年之一的我校数学教师张思明，布置学生在暑假当中写数学论文，学生兴趣极大，数学学习有了更大的收获。我校体育文化节，除了举行运动会之外，还要进行小论文的答辩活动，也增强了学生学习体育的兴趣。有的学生在答辩过程中体验到了自主学习的乐趣，产生了求知的快感，便自动地坚持大量读书，经常写卡片，学习各种知识。有的学生在广泛阅读的基础上，还集中学习某一方面的知识，发展自己的个性，为将来选择自己从事的专业做好了准备。有的学生“一篇论文定终身”，如85届的王京同学写了《谈心理治疗》，后来考取了医学院。这样的例子不少。 这项活动不像一些人担心的那样会降低高考的成绩。恰好相反，提高了高考成绩。北大附中由于设备落后，房屋破旧，水平高的学生不愿意来，所以每年招收的高中生，平均成绩在海淀区占第七位，好一点的时候占第六位。但是高考总成绩经常是第二名或第三名，1996年语文高考成绩是全区第一名。 正因为学生学习兴趣高，我校学生在各种竞赛中均拿到了较高的名次。八十至九十年代，在参加中学生数学、物理、化学、外语、信息学、生物学的国际竞赛中，共获得金牌8枚，银牌4枚，铜牌1枚，占北京市参加中学生国际竞赛获得奖牌总数的37％。在历年北京市科学竞赛当中，我校获得一等奖的共有98人，占北京市获奖总人数的19 ％。这些成绩，同我们学校贯彻以学生为主体的教育思想不无关系，同我们开辟学生自主学习的新天地，开展小论文写作和答辩工作不无关系。（三）锻炼了教师队伍。 教师在科技论文的写作和答辩中的收获不比学生小。为了教好这门课程，教师就得经常广泛地读书看报，了解新的信息。对于自己的专业知识，就更需要不停地学习，使自己的水平不断得到提高。这门课程促进教师注意收集材料，研究教育问题，把小论文写作课不断推向前进。我校教师也经常写论文，在全国性的报刊杂志上发表，还有许多著作出版。据1994年的统计，语文组的教师17人，发表百万字以上著作（习题、作文选评之类的不算著作）的有6人，将近百万字的2人，除了两个刚刚参加工作的年轻教师之外，其余每个人都发表了几万到几十万字的著作。我校其他教师发表的文章、著作就更多了。我校特级语文教师李裕德老师受到学生小论文写作的启发，也为了指导学生学好科技语言，于1985年出版了中国第一本《科技汉语语法》，于1987年出版了我国第一本《科技汉语修辞》，在理科实验班进行教学，还意外地受到了科技界和科技出版界的热烈欢迎，这两本书成了许多科技出版社的必读书。仅仅工作了5年的年轻教师汪颍，在中学语文教学最权威性的杂志《中学语文教学》1996年第8期上发表了《同中求异，异中求同——比较教学法在语文教学中的运用》，发挥了极大的联想能力，将语文教学同数学教学、外语教学沟通起来了。（四）对社会作出了贡献
