如果说，在上世纪八九十年代的中国，汽车意味着显赫的地位和尊贵的身份，那么，在今天，随着越来越多的家庭开始拥有汽车，它的价值得以在更多领域体现出来。 这项由北汽福田汽车股份有限公司、零点研究咨询集团和清华大学产业发展与环境治理研究中心共同发起的研究显示，在当今中国，机动工具的价值集中表现在职业助益、增加社交半径、提升社会地位和支持多样化娱乐选择四个方面，其中尤以职业方面的增效减压表现最为突出。 　　调查显示，3914名受访者对机动车的“职业帮助”作用有着明显的认同。在满分为5分的测量表中，“提高工作效率”、“降低工作强度”和“提高购买方便性”都获得了3分以上的分值。 　　机动车在“增加社交活动半径”方面带给人们的价值同样得到了广泛的认同。包括“提高生活自由度”、“增加访友次数”、“增加去其他地方的频率”、“提高自信程度”、“增加家庭集体活动频率”、“增加认识新朋友的机会”、“增加外出就餐机会”等在内的多项指标，得分在2．24～2．92之间。 　　该项目研究小组成员之一，零点集团董事长袁岳认为，在职业与社交方面的价值，机动工具的贡献方式来源于两方面：一是最大程度地帮助使用者扩大活动半径，使其能在更宽的地理半径内找到合作伙伴、社交对象与各类资源；二是在一定范围内增加活动频率，加强与业务伙伴、社交对象的交往密度。人们在机动工具的支持下，扩大了选择面、巩固了社会联络强度，从而提升了交易成功率、职业表现能力与社交沟通质量。 　　除了以上两方面价值体现之外，调查报告称，对于高端机动车使用者来说，其社交的意义更为突出。 　　在《格调》一书中，作者把“你开的车”同“你家的客厅”、“你最爱喝的饮品”、“你的措辞”一道，作为划分社会阶层的四大指标。一些社会心理学家也认为，机动车可以提升人们跨越时空、处理难题的能力，从而使其自信心显著加强。同时，作为一种外显符号，它又具备将人们从一般人群中区分出来的功能。因此，在总体购买力不均衡、拥有水平存在差异的前提下，机动车具有在不同场景下凸现个人地位形象的作用。 　　调查还发现，机动车在“支持宜居与娱乐”方面的作用并不十分突出。“增加认识更多异性朋友的机会”、“增加旅游次数”、“可选择更合适的居住地点”、“可选择更多类型娱乐内容与花样”等几项侧重享受的指标，公众的认可度均在2．13分以下。 　　对于该结果，袁岳认为，在当今国人的生活中，机动车更多的是作为工作工具来使用的，而在生活享受层面上的贡献相对不突出。如果把机动车分成四代———第一代机动车叫做社会特选符号，第二代叫做商务使用工具，第三代叫做家庭支持工具，第四代叫做个人娱乐享受工具———那么，现阶段中国的机动工具使用处在二代半，靠近第三代的水平上。也就是说，机动车的价值，主要体现在同时支持职业需要和家庭生活方面。
